WHAT I DO
As a modality, kinesiology has been one of the fastest growing natural therapies in Australia for several years now and it is because… people find it works for them where other things have not. There are many types of kinesiology but, the use of muscle testing, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) meridian system and working with the nervous system/ brain are areas of common practice.
All that this therapy really requires of you is an open mind.
Kinesiology is a particularly effective (evidence-based) therapy for managing stress and anxiety. In a gentle and non-invasive way, it allows the practitioner to pinpoint where stress is being held in your body and then work to release this. It may also help you to understand why an issue has developed in the first place and what changes you may need to make to turn things around.
If you are waiting to be seen or referred to other medical or allied health practitioners, or you feel lost, worried or in pain, kinesiology may be a great place for you to start to find some relief.
Most sessions are a gentle mix of body work and de-stressing techniques sometimes with take-home guidance to put into action. In addition, I may also use other holistic modalities such as counselling, acupressure and the like, as and when required. Through continued professional development I am always learning new skills to bring back to my clients. Every person is unique and benefits from a different approach. In fact, no two sessions are ever the same.
Please be aware that kinesiology does not ‘cure’ or diagnose’ a condition but works instead to help alleviate the blocks (physiological, mental/ emotional, spiritual, energetic) that get in the way of your body’s innate ability to heal.
Types of things may want to see me for…
Emotional stress reduction
Reducing physical, structural/ joint pain and mobility issues
Sleep problems
Digestion disorders ie. IBS
Chronic health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid and more
Easing anxiety, depression, PTSD, fears & phobias
Coping with grief or loss
Understanding yourself and your behavior in relationships
Identifying & releasing toxic emotions & limiting beliefs
Feeling lost or disassociated from others
Managing hormonal imbalances, menstrual cycle
Working with children & teens experiencing challenges at school such as bullying, isolation, learning difficulties, attention disorders
Overall brain function, memory problems
Optimizing performance, sport and athletic goals
These are some of the more common things that may come through the door, but this is a space you can bring any issue…. I work with it all.
This is not for you if…
You don’t want to take ‘self-responsibility’ for the things that come up for you.
You aren’t quite ready for real change.
You are not prepared to make yourself and your health a priority. This doesn’t mean you cannot make other people in your life a priority too.
You want me to FIX you, or you think that all your issues should be fixed in just a couple of sessions.
Sometimes this does happen for sure but there is no blueprint, and everyone works through things differently. Often though, there is usually another deeper issue lying underneath. It’s a bit like peeling the shell off a cooked egg. Sometimes it comes off in one nice piece, at other times there are a lot of smaller pieces you must deal with. Your body knows how best to work through things for you, and in what order and timeframe.
Working with Children & Teens…
Is your child or teen struggling with,
Anxiety, depression, fear, worry, nervousness, panic attacks
Bed wetting, sleep issues
Learning difficulties such as poor concentration, motivation
Lethargy, hormone imbalance
Digestive upsets, skin problems, headaches
Low self-esteem or confidence, eating disorders, negative self-talk, perfectionism
Emotional outbursts, anger, lashing out, crying
Communication issues such as shutting down, withdrawing from the world around them, unable to communicate needs, feelings or wants or speaking up for themselves
Social anxiety, bullying, fear of public speaking, difficulty making/ keeping friendships, easily led by others, anti-social behavior
Trauma & Abuse.
Teens may have a lot of pressure from peers, parents and society in general to ‘fit in’, ‘grow up’ or behave or think a certain way. At the same time your teen developmentally is challenging their own identity and determining how they fit into the various societal ideals. Add hormones to this and it possibly adds more fuel to the fire.
Finishing school, deciding what to do with your future while being unsure of what you want and who you are, struggling to cope with study workload and exams can all lead to much stress, anxiety and even physical symptoms.
Change is not easy for most people but sometimes we forget what a difficult transition it can be from child to adulthood. Going from having no responsibilities to being responsible for well, your whole life and its direction. Understanding why we are thinking, feeling and behaving a certain way may help to empower your child or teen to better understand themselves and determine what their triggers are, to enable them to make better choices in behaviour in the future.
It is an asset when looking at mental/ emotional issues with teens, whose brains are still developing that both neurological, physiological and hormonal imbalances are also considered in the equation. This is something many other modalities are unable to do.
